Devil’s Bridge

The most famous of the mineral springs is the mineral water of the Devil’s Bridge near the road from Goris to Tatev, which has been used in folk medicine since ancient times. The Devil’s Bridge, which was created without human intervention, is 30 m long, 60 m wide, and 100 m high above the river level. It is made of limestone and travertines formed from mineral waters. The travertine columns – powerful stalactites – accumulated under the bridge simply hang over the river waters. The columns are yellow at the base, and then gradually turn green, creating a fairy-tale feeling in a person. At first glance, it seems that a small stream enters under the bridge, but it comes out more abundantly. This is probably where the strange name came from.

Hot mineral springs flow from the rocks adjacent to the Devil’s Bridge all year round, which are a wonderful natural formation. The numerous mineral springs of the Devil’s Bridge have created a natural pool where you can take an outdoor healing bath. It amazes visitors with its beauty, uniqueness and vegetation. The water has a temperature of 25°C, is clean and cures joint diseases.

There are many historical passages associated with the Devil’s Bridge. The location and natural conditions of the site were of great strategic importance here during the liberation struggle of Syunik, which was led by Garegin Nzhdeh. From the high parts of the bridge, Nzhdeh threw into the gorge the Askyar newcomers and the Red Bolsheviks, who were trying to seize the historical lands of Armenia.
