Sisian the region is rich in ancient and medieval historical and cultural with an inheritance, which is of big interest for tourists.
Sisian is located in the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia and is the administrative center of the enlarged Sisian community, which includes the city and 35 rural settlements. It is located on both banks of the Vorotan River, 6-7 km south of the Yerevan-Meghri interstate highway. The community has a population of about 30,000.
In terms of historical geography, it has always been part of the Syunik province of Greater Armenia or the Sisavan world, and was originally the seat of its ancestors and princely houses, as well as the administrative-political and religious center, mainly occupying the territory of the historical Tsghuk province of Syunik. In the early Middle Ages, it bore the name Syunik, and in 1935-1940, it bore the names Sisavan.
