“Yotnaghbyur” monument
The memorial fountain dedicated to those who died in the WW2 is located in the central park of Goris /built of polished basalt/. On the right and left sides of the front wall of the fountain, there are arched openings, and in the middle, an arched niche the size of the openings. Three fountains are placed in the niche, at different heights. On the right and left sides of the central niche, there are two smaller columnar niches, in which one fountain is placed each. Two similar columnar niches and one arched opening are also present on the side walls of the memorial fountain, and one fountain is placed in each of the side niches. The total number of fountains is seven. This is due to this circumstance, which is why the people of Goris called it “The Fountain of Seven”. On the right and left wings of the fountain is written in Armenian and Russian: “It was built during the Great Patriotic War, 1943-45,” and the monument’s facade is inscribed: “In memory of the heroes of Zangezur who died in the Great Patriotic War.” On the granite slab on the opposite side of the wall opposite, we read a quatrain from a song dedicated to the spring-monument of Gusan Ashot.
