Oughtasar

Oughtasar is located about 25 km north of the city of Sisian, in the central part of the Syunik plateau, between the Black and Al lakes, at an altitude of 3300 m above sea level. The road to this area is difficult and accessible only in June-September.

In Oughtasar, at an altitude of about 3300 m above sea level, ancient rock paintings have been preserved, dating back to the 5th-2nd millennia BC.

The rock paintings are carved on more than 1000 quartz stones scattered throughout the ground. They depict people mainly in moments of hunting, work, religious rituals, wild and domestic animals, celestial luminaries, etc.
